What kind of Service Level Guarantee do you offer?
We offer 99.99% uptime, with exception of scheduled downtime. From time to time we do have to perform maintenance on our servers to ensure peak performance. In this event, we will schedule a window of downtime and notify all customers. When possible we always schedule downtime during non-peak usage.
Ok, what is Usenet?
Good question! Usenet is a collection of newsgroups, which works very similar to a collection of bulletin boards. These bulletin boards or newsgroups contain information on various topics and subject matter.

How do I reach you for support?
Currently, we need you to email support@slurp.net for all support issues and inquiries. Our technical staff will open a ticket and resolve your issue in a timely manner. We are workimg on a Members Support Center which will allow you to monitor and maintain your own newsfeed. From this center you will be able to add newsgroups, edit IPs, remove IPs and even review your stats. This is under construction and should be available to you in the next few months
Do you monitor my download usage?
We dont! We understand the needs of ISPs and cater our service for Internet Providers. We provide you with concurrent sessions or individual sessions for our Personal account subscribers.
ISP Custtomers Please note: We recommend a minimum number of connections equal to 10% of your total number of dial-up modem ports. For example, if you have 5000 customers, we recommend 50 concurrent sessions.
How do my customers authenticate on your service?
We offer three different authentication schemes. Personal account subscribers utilize username/password authentication. Most of our ISP and business customers prefer IP Authentication. This means that you supply us with your IP ranges and we allow those as authorized logins to our news service. Any of your customers within that IP range will be granted news access.
Some customers prefer Radius based authentication. This simply means your users may use their own username and password and Slurp News will authenticate that with your radius server, ensuring only your active customers will have access to the service. This prohibits abuse of service.
How do I set up an alias so my customers go to news.mycompany.com rather than Slurp?
Most of our customers choose to alias their news name to Slurp in order to mask our identity. In order to accomplish this, simply follow the settings below:
Adding DNS Alias Info:
1) open the file for the domain you will be adding the alias to in your favorite
text editor
2) add the line "news.yourdomain.com. IN CNAME news.slurp.net."
3) update the serial number at the top of the zone file
4) save changes
5) reload named service (e.g.: /usr/sbin/ndc reload)
How do I setup Radius Based Authentication?
- information we will need from you:
* Radius server IP
* Port radius answers on
* Shared Secret (password used between the two radius server and machine requesting auth)
* Realm (domain IE: example@slurp.net (@slurp.net being the realm
* If you need the realm striped before requests are sent to your radius server, check the 'strip realm' checkbox.
* You will then need to let your radius server know that Slurp is allowed to request authentication information, both from news.slurp.net and newsfeed.slurp.net.
I prefer to use or have my customers use Slurp News Settings:
Not a problem! Just give your customers the settings below
news server: news.slurp.net port 119
username: your selected username - only needed if you choose SQL authentication
password: your selected password - only needed if you choose SQL authentication
How can we contact you?
We ask that all of our customers email us as it is is our most efficient form of communication. It also allows us to keep our costs down which is why we can provide you with a substantial savings when compared to ther usenet providers.
